HEIGER
Steam Iron – Product Design & CMF
Designing clarity into complexity
Overview
The project for Heiger was developed with the aim of repositioning an everyday appliance into a higher perceived segment, focusing on quality, formal clarity, and visual coherence.
The steam iron was rethought as a solid, reliable product with a quiet and confident design language, capable of conveying value without relying on unnecessary decorative elements.
Concept
The concept is based on a balance between visual robustness and perceived lightness.
Clean, continuous surfaces define a clear volume structure, allowing the product to be immediately readable from any angle. The overall architecture was designed to appear stable both during use and when placed vertically, turning the iron into a well-composed object even at rest.
Design Approach
The design process focused on three key aspects:
Form: an essential geometry with smooth transitions between volumes and strong coherence across side, front, and rear views.
Materials & CMF: the use of matte and translucent plastics with satin finishes enhances material perception and reduces a “plastic” look. The upper handle area features a more tactile texture, improving both grip and visual comfort.
Functional details: clear and intuitive controls, clean integration of the water tank, and discreet, non-intrusive branding.
Every decision was guided by the goal of creating a product that feels intuitive, balanced, and suitable for everyday use.
Result
The result is a contemporary steam iron with a restrained and timeless character, designed to perform reliably while maintaining a strong visual identity.
The project reinforces the Heiger brand through a coherent design language and improved perceived quality, positioning the product more competitively within the small domestic appliances market.
